When it comes to self-care and achieving a good night's sleep, a holistic silk eye masks should be on everyone’s must-have list. Not only do they add a touch of luxury to your bedtime routine, but they also offer a wide range of benefits for your skin, sleep quality, and overall well-being.
Beyond incredible night’s sleep the key benefits of sleeping with a silk eye mask are found in its ability to reduce skin moisture loss so preventing wrinkles and its anti-allergy, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial effects for health.
Yes, silk eye masks form a moisture barrier against the skin to not only prevent moisture loss and dehydration but the proteins in silk also enhance healthy skin. This provides a stark contrast to cotton which actively dries out skin leaving it more prone to wrinkle formation and sagging.
Silk is hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for those with allergies, irritation prone or sensitive skin. The silk eye mask can create a barrier between your face and potential irritants, such as dust mites, pollen of animal hair, leading to a more comfortable night's sleep.
For those prone to allergies, it is worth considering a silk pillowcase and eye mask set to reduce your exposure even further to allergens.
Short answer yes it will. The White Lotus masks create a complete black out of unwanted light. Blocking out light is proven to improve sleep quality and depth. Sleep is then more restful and rejuvenating. This benefits all of us but is perfect for shift workers, travellers or anyone experiencing disrupted sleep.
To ensure the perfect nights sleep you need to make sure your silk sleeping mask is wide enough to block out all light, is an adjustable silk eye mask for a close fit and not only has a smooth silk surface but uses silk filler throughout for its anti-allergy and temperature regulation effects.
Silk is known for its natural temperature-regulating properties. It not only keeps you cool when it is hot but cools you when the temperature rises. In ancient China silk bedding was used extensively to assist night sweats from multiple causes including menopause. A reduction is sweating around the eyes can naturally reduce disrupted sleep.
Anyone who has trouble falling asleep will appreciate the importance of a good pre bedtime routine. Not only is it important to go to bed at a similar time but it is vital to enter bed in a calm state of mind prepared to sleep. Putting on a silk eye mask can help act a signal to your body that it is time to turn off and unwind for a peaceful night's sleep.
Silk eye masks should ideally be hand washed but can also be machine washed on cold cycles with water below 30 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Quality silk like the White Lotus mask will endure frequent washing better than thinner silk and so comes with a 1-year guarantee.
Be sure to always check the care label before washing. This should include things like the maximum temperature the silk should endure and to use a detergent that is silk friendly.
If using a washing machine, it is best to use a mesh laundry bag. Wash on a gentle silk specific setting with a silk friendly detergent. Only ever use a cold cycle! Once the mask is clean allow it to air dry. Never use a tumble dryer.
No, you should never iron a real silk eye mask. Some pages will instruct you to iron the mask on a low temperature on the non-silk side avoiding direct contact with the silk. High quality silk eye masks are silk on both sides and contain silk filler making this impossible. Beware any products suggesting their masks are safe to iron!
No both men and women can benefit equally from silk masks. Silk eye masks can improve sleep, reduce wrinkle formation and moisture loss, and reduce vulnerability to allergic reactions. The silk does not discriminate and is just as happy to provide these benefits to either gender.
The White Lotus silk eye mask provide the benefits of pure mulberry silk with a durable 19 momme thickness and pure silk filler. Nontoxic dyes are used throughout, and they are delivered in a beautiful storage/ gift box. Peace silk is used for peace of mind and plastic usage is minimised throughout the process. 17,000 people and counting now agree so we challenge you to find a better silk mask on the market.
]]>They are small cosmetic tools usually containing around 117 microneedles. The microneedles are used to increase the body's own natural collagen production and to increase the transdermal absorption of beneficial products through the skin.
The stamps are largely used to assist hair loss, and scarring and in some cases benefit the signs of aging. This blog will focus on what to look for in a stamp and how to use them for these purposes.
Please note stamps can also be called a derma roller stamp, derma needle stamp, micro derma stamp or derma stamp pen. They should not however be confused with a dermapen which incorporates an electronic insertion technique.
It is usually best to perform dermastamping with a 1.0mm dermastamp. This is long enough to pass through any remaining hair in the area to ensure an effective treatment. The stamp is preferable to a dermaroller as no hair can become entangled in the roller's axle and pulled out.
When choosing a device make sure the microneedles use a secure interlocking method so there is no risk the microneedles can fall out.
Needle quality is also important. High-quality microneedles will stay sharp for over a year with regular use. One of the leading causes of discomfort during treatments is blunt needles so this is very important.
Discover the White Lotus hair loss derma stamp
Discover the White Lotus Hair Restoration Pack
Generally, stamps are better than derma rollers for assisting hair loss. Unlike dermal rollers, hair does not get tangled in the axle and pulled out. This is very important if the hair is longer than about 5mm in length for both women and men.
When you dermastamp hair, it is very important to go slowly and steadily to ensure the entire scalp is evenly covered. It is much easier to miss a patch than with a roller. Remember to dermastamp hairline areas where hair used to grow as well as existing problem areas.
Microneedling can reduce the visible signs of scarring by up to 70%. This makes it a very good choice to assist with a variety of scars such as caesarean scars, ice pick scars and to dermastamp acne scars. It targets smaller areas more intensely than a dermaroller.
There have been many scientific studies demonstrating the effectiveness of microneedling for scars. Some have shown that it can improve the appearance of scars by up to 2 grades.
Normal collagen looks like a crisscross lattice structure. In the case of scar tissue, this crisscross pattern is replaced by collagen fibres all aligned in a row. Micro-needling breaks down this misformed collagen and through the wound healing cascade assists the body in creating a completely new matrix of improved collagen.
If treating large areas of ice pick scars, then the roller is an easier option as it can cover large areas of skin quickly and smoothly. However, to target larger scars caused by acne cysts the stamp can be a good option.
When assisting acne scarring it is important to cover the entire area from a few different angles to make sure that all affected tissue is treated equally.
Be careful if there is still acne in the area. Bursting acne with a microneedling device can increase the risk of scarring. It is better to treat the skin breakouts first if possible or if not make sure only areas that are free of acne are dermastamped.
Please follow these simple steps to safely use your micro needle device at home -
Microneedle dermastamps can increase the body's own natural collagen production by up to 1,000%. They are very useful for small areas like below the eyes as they can target small spaces that are hard to reach with derma rollers.
When using stamps for this purpose it is often better to obtain smaller stamps that can fit more easily into the niches and grooves of the face.
When performing beauty treatments like this it is important to be very careful with the choice of cosmetic products. The dramatic increase in transdermal absorption means it is important to only use products that have been shown to be safe and effective with microneedling.
A small stamp can be ideal to target fine lines and wrinkles below the eyes. Microneedling can increase natural collagen induction to improve the appearance of these lines. It can also help reduce sagging and puffiness in the area.
Generally speaking, as these conditions cover larger areas of skin it is quicker and more efficient to use a roller to increase collagen production and smooth out the skin. If however you only have a stamp available then it can be very effective but slower to use.
In most of these cases, it is best to use a 1.0mm roller rather than a shorter 0.5mm dermastamp or roller. The longer needles allow the microneedling to penetrate through the thicker skin in these areas and pass through any raised misaligned striae tissue.
Before and after use spray the device with colloidal silver spray or isopropyl alcohol and return it to the safety of its case. Do not soak the microneedles in any solution. Both sprays will kill 99.99% of bacteria but the colloidal silver is normally preferable as any remaining alcohol can dehydrate the skin.
The White Lotus stamp uses a unique interlocking system to attach its microneedles, so glue is not required. Please be aware that some poorer quality microneedling equipment uses glue to attach the needles.
This glue can be dissolved by solutions such as denture cleaner leading the microneedles to fall out. This is why we recommend avoiding soaking the stamp and using cleaning products that are not specifically made for this purpose.

Although fragrance isn’t anything new, in fact, perfumery has been around for centuries, it’s only been in recent decades that cosmetics brands have started to use more synthetic fragrances than natural.
But what are synthetic fragrances, and are they really that bad for you?
Today, we’ll be talking about the history of clean beauty fragrances and trying to get to the bottom of what makes them so bad in cosmetics products.
Synthetic fragrances is the name used for any type of perfume that’s created in a lab using ingredients like petroleum and other gas byproducts. They are used to make cosmetics smell more pleasant but are very different from the natural fragrances that have been used for centuries.
Perfume is thought to have originated in India, where people used mixtures of oil to create beautiful scents that could be applied directly to the skin. Then the perfume industry started to expand to Europe, which is when other ingredients like alcohol and solvents, started to get added.
Soon, the percentage of pure oils (known as attar oils) was mainly phased out in favour of inexpensive synthetic additives by many cosmetics companies. Now whenever you see fragrances in cosmetics, it’s always synthetic
Many cosmetics brands now use fragrance allergens in their products because it’s a lot cheaper than natural alternatives, which helps them to maximise their profit margins.
Brands also like synthetic fragrances because they have a stronger initial smell than natural oils, however, they are nowhere near as long-lasting. Many synthetic fragrances are packed full of alcohol which can make fragrant oils evaporate quickly.
Natural attar oils are also more expensive than synthetic counterparts, so many companies will avoid using them to keep their costs as low as possible.
There are plenty of negatives of using synthetic parfum in cosmetics products. Mainly that they are not as long-lasting, have a shorter shelf life and can cause skin irritations.
Here are just some of the main negatives of synthetic fragrance:
The alcohol in synthetic fragrances can make scents evaporate quicker. Meaning that if you want the scent of your cosmetics product to last all day, you’ll have to keep reapplying.
Most synthetic fragrances have a shelf life of 6-18 months, which is much shorter than pure attar oils which can last years.
Many people with sensitive skin can be very prone to irritations and rashes when using cosmetics products that contain the alcohol and solvents found in synthetic fragrances.
Alcohol can be extremely drying, so really you want to avoid it as much as possible in your cosmetics products. The dryer your skin is, the more likely you are to start noticing premature wrinkles.
Many people have reactions to fragrances, but the symptoms can show up differently for everyone. Some of the common symptoms include a rash, dry skin, or a burning sensation.
Some of the main symptoms of fragrance sensitivity include:
If you notice that you are particularly sensitive to synthetic fragrance, the best thing you can do is cut out any products that contain it out of your beauty routine.
The next time you’re at your local beauty store, take a bit of extra time to look out for products that have ‘fragrance-free’ on the label. Sometimes they may say things like ‘unscented’ or ‘no added fragrance’ so you might have to check the ingredients list yourself to see what the product contains.
Yes, it’s much better to use clean fragrances like attar oils. This is because, unlike synthetic fragrances, it’s very rare to have a reaction to pure attar oils, they’re also more hydrating and of better quality.
Just a small amount of natural fragrance can go a long way in cosmetics products. A few drops are all it takes to create a subtle scent that lasts all day. Not only do attar oils smell better and last longer, but they also have natural hydrating properties that are much more gentle on the skin.
You also have peace of mind that the products you’re putting on your face and body aren’t going to irritate your skin, unlike synthetic fragrances that could contain all sorts of man-made ingredients.
It may seem like it’s hard to find the best alcohol and fragrance-free products, but if you read the label of your products and make sure to check the ingredients list, you shouldn’t have a problem.
Here are our two main tips that will make it easier for you to find clean products at the beauty store:
It should be clear straight away whether a product contains synthetic fragrances or not, but it never hurts to read the label just to make sure.
Most products will state it on the front of their packaging, but if it doesn’t, you can look out for the following in the ingredients list:
If you want to find fragrance-free products you can conduct research online, check out online forums and read other peoples’ reviews. This will help you figure out if a product is really fragrance-free or if it contains synthetic fragrances.
There should be in-depth information on a brand’s website, but you can also find plenty of other information online from people who, like you, are looking for fragrance-free products who are always sharing their latest finds.
For the best fragrance-free face serum, we love our White Lotus Activated Jade and Tourmaline Serum, which is an all-natural product that uses a range of botanicals to lift and enhance your skin.
We love using face serums in our skincare routine, but you want to make sure that the powerful active ingredients are able to do their job effectively – not being masked by synthetic fragrance.
At White Lotus, we let our ingredients do the talking – not the product’s scent. Our serum is free from any additional alcohol and fragrances that do nothing for your skin.
If you don’t know what ingredients you should be looking for in your skincare products, there’s no need to worry! Here are some of the ingredients you should avoid:

]]>The acupuncture vs dry needling debate involves many facets which are discussed below.
No acupuncture requires pre-existing knowledge of the location of acupuncture points and their effects on the body. Dry needling in comparison locates the tight muscles and needles directly into them to release the tension.
So in answer to the question are dry needling and acupuncture the same the answer is definitely not. They share the use of acupuncture needles but their theories of practice and uses are very different.
The term dry needling is a recent phenomenon. It is used to differentiate this form of needling from another modern western medicine needling which injects fluid into the body.
Normally acupuncture uses specific acupuncture points on the meridians which are very different to trigger point dry needling. However, for musculoskeletal injuries, acupuncturists will also use what is referred to as ‘ashi’ points or tender points in the muscles. This is very similar to dry needling.
This has become a point of controversy between different groups of practitioners in the USA and elsewhere and their scope of practice.
The term dry needling is originally attributed to Janet G Travell in her book Myofacial Pain and Dysfunction: Trigger Point Manual in 1983. This makes it a far more modern therapy than acupuncture whose practice dates back thousands of years.
Acupuncturists will often claim that dry needling is simply acupuncture rebranded for use by other practitioners. There is some evidence to support this as 92% of the points discussed in Janet G Travell's book correspond with known acupuncture points.
Most scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of dry needling over placebos is also provided by trials on acupuncture. There is to date very little research on dry needling as a stand-alone practice and evidence from acupuncture trials is actively used to promote the efficacy of dry needling.
It seems unlikely that the 92% correspondence rate is pure coincidence but it is worth noting that Janet never used an acupuncture needle. She considered modern acupuncture needles far too thin to effectively release the muscles and preferred to use a 22-27 gauge hypodermic needle in all her treatments.
This supports the counter-theory that dry needling developed as a variation of trigger point injections with a hypodermic needle.
Yun Tao Ma the founder of integrative systemic dry needling who has been instrumental in the promotion of dry needling acknowledges that dry needling originated in traditional Chinese methods but believes that it has developed significantly enough to be considered a separate modern medical practice.
Importantly both groups would agree on one thing. If no Chinese medicine theory or knowledge of point location or meridians theory is studied then dry needling is not acupuncture as it was originally intended to be practised.
In theory, dry needling can be performed with a variety of different needle types including the filiform needles used in acupuncture and hypodermic needles. In practice, most therapists now use acupuncture needles to perform dry needling as it is more practical and comfortable for their clients.
This appears to work very effectively as does the acupuncture practice of needling ashi points.
Acupuncture uses specific acupuncture points on well-established meridians to regulate endorphins and benefit a wide variety of conditions in the body. Dry needling is a more recent development and is largely used by physical therapists who needle directly into the body of tense muscles to release tension and relieve pain.
There are several other key differences between dry needling and acupuncture.
Acupuncture is an ancient system that dates back thousands of years. It was and is used to treat the body in a holistic manner. It has been more widely researched in modern times and is now commonly used to treat the following amongst other issues
Dry needling is also known as trigger point dry needling or intramuscular stimulation. It is usually used to treat pain and mobility issues including
This covers the main differences in answer to the question what’s the difference between dry needling and acupuncture. Next, we discuss which is better and how does dry needling compare to other therapies like massage and cupping.
Acupuncture can assist a wider variety of conditions unrelated to myofascial pain syndrome. Dry needling on the other hand is usually performed by specialists in pain and injury management such as physiotherapists and can be very effective when used as part of pain management.
Acupuncturists usually undergo 3-4 year degree level training purely in acupuncture technique and differential diagnosis using the Chinese medicine system. For this reason, it should be expected that the needling technique may be better though this gap has narrowed with the wider use of guide tubes.
Dry needling on the other hand is usually practised by physiotherapists, chiropractors, remedial therapists, sports therapists, osteopaths and doctors. These groups specialise in muscular pain and injury relief and can bring other specialist knowledge to the treatment of these specific conditions.
Courses in dry needling are less regulated in many countries and the average length of a course in dry needling is 80 hours.
Both can achieve effective results in pain and injury management. Acupuncture has a much wider scope of use than dry needling and so the choice of the practitioner should come down to personal preference and what you are trying to achieve.
Cupping creates a vacuum against the skin which can help break up old connective tissue to relieve tension and pain. Dry needling inserts needles directly into trigger points in the muscle to release muscle tension and pain.
It is difficult to compare results between the 2 practices and both can be used together as part of a more holistic approach to pain management, injury or even cosmetic practices.
Dry needling is usually performed by physical therapists such as physiotherapists so is usually performed in conjunction with massage. It can act as an aid to complement the wider treatment and release deeper muscle tension that may not be responding to physical manipulation.
Dry needling vs deep tissue massage is very similar as no matter how deep the massage it cannot necessarily release a trigger point, in the same way, a needle can.
Both insert small filiform needles into trigger points or ashi points to relieve pain and injury. Acupuncture is part of an ancient system that also uses needles in specific points on meridians for a variety of conditions while dry needling is used solely by physical therapists in conjunction with massage and physical manipulation.

Get glowing skin and luscious locks while you sleep with a peace silk pillowcase.
Who knew that you could get a great night’s sleep and improve your beauty routine with the help of one product?
If you dream of glowing skin and a restful night, a peace silk pillowcase should be your next investment.
You may not think about how important the materials you sleep on are for your beauty routine, but choosing the right sleep accessories will help you to drift off to sleep while keeping your hair and skin looking healthy for years to come.
At White Lotus, we’ve discovered that the real secret to perfect skin and sleep lies in where you lay your head at the end of the day – your pillowcase.
There are many different options out there when it comes to pillowcases, but choosing the right one can seem like a daunting prospect. But, really, the most important thing is to choose the right material.
And when it comes to natural, ethical pillowcase materials, there’s only one real option – silk. Not only is silk super comfortable, and extra luxurious, it also offers some seriously impressive beauty benefits.
We use peace silk in all of our silk pillowcases and eye masks. It’s one of the more ethical options but still feels as smooth and glossy as other forms of silk.
Here’s everything you need to know about what is ahimsa silk and why a silk pillowcase is something you should invest in this year.
When peace silk is made, the moth is allowed to pierce the cocoon and leave. This is different from traditional methods where the moth is normally boiled alive inside the cocoon.
Silk comes from silkworms, but you may not know that there actually quite a few different types of silk. It all depends on the way the silkworms are reared to produce the material.
Yes, ahimsa peace silk is probably the most ethical silk you can buy. Most methods of rearing silk aren’t very kind to the animals, however, peace silk is made in a much more humane process that promotes animal welfare.
Because it’s more humane, peace silk is also known as ‘ahimsa’ silk, which translates to ‘non-violent’. The ethical extraction of peace silk makes it a good choice for people who care about the treatment of animals and want to make conscious choices when it comes to the products they buy.
Peace silk pillowcases are known for having a variety of health and beauty benefits like hydrating the skin, strengthening your hair, nourishing your scalp, and reducing redness while you sleep which is why dermatologists and facialists recommend them to so many people.
Ahimsa silk pillowcases not only look beautiful, but they can also work wonders on your skin and hair – all while you’re asleep.
Here are just some of the reasons you should start using an ethical peace silk pillowcase:
Natural fibres like silk are much more breathable, which is ideal for your bedding. When your skin is cooler, you sweat less, which makes your skin less prone to redness and inflammation.
Often, the materials that are used in pillowcases can trap heat and cause temperatures to rise while you’re sleeping.
Cool temperatures are generally ideal during sleep as it helps to de-puff your skin and keep it looking bright and glowing.
Ethical silk is much less absorbent than your typical pillowcase materials it won’t absorb all of your skincare products while you’re sleeping. With a peace silk pillowcase, you can make sure your products stay where they are supposed to be: on your face.
If you’ve spent lots of money on your skincare products, and diligently applied them all before going to sleep, the last thing you want is for them to rub straight off as soon as you lie down in bed.
Some pillowcases can be really rough on your hair, causing frizz and damage without you even realising it. Silk is an anti-static material, so even if you’re up tossing and turning all night, you never have to worry about your hair looking messy in the morning.
If you ever wake up to your hair looking unkempt and frizzy, the main culprit may be your pillowcase.
The smooth texture of a natural silk pillowcase is gentle and can even protect your hair – the proteins in silk have been shown to adhere to the keratin in our hair to keep each strand strong and healthy.
Silk pillowcases can alleviate the symptoms of eczema and dermatitis, this is because it’s much smoother on the skin and doesn’t cause as much irritation. Other materials like cotton can cause a lot of friction that can aggravate sensitive skin.
So if you suffer from sensitive skin or other skin conditions, natural fibres like silk are the best things to invest in.
Gentle silk pillowcases are great for reducing skin creasing overnight which is one of the causes of premature wrinkles – which we’re all trying to avoid. Silk pillowcases are so effective because they limit the amount of friction that is caused to your skin while you’re sleeping.
We all want to grow old gracefully, and an ethical silk pillowcase could be the secret to keeping a youthful glow for years to come.
While you’re dreaming away, your silk pillowcase will be working hard to protect your skin’s moisture barrier and protect the fragile upper layers of your skin. The fibres in silk nourish your skin and scalp so you don’t have to worry about getting dry overnight.
The result? Radiant, glowing skin that makes you look well-rested and super youthful every day — even if you’re not a morning person usually.
Our peace silk pillowcases are extremely high quality and long-lasting. Our products are made to be the best for our customers and our goal is for everyone to enjoy all the many beauty benefits that come with using the ethical silk we use in our pillowcases.
At White Lotus, we love our peace silk pillowcases and we think they’re the perfect sleep and beauty accessory that everyone should get their hands on.
Whether you’re male or female, anyone can enjoy the benefits that come with an ahimsa peace silk pillowcase. With a wide range of anti-ageing and hair benefits, it’s easy to see why these are at the height of popularity at the moment.
Natural silk pillowcases tend to last many years if you take good care of them, and if you use a White Lotus pillowcase it can last even longer.

]]>There are several important points to note here. When looking for what to apply after a derma roller treatment you must consider the following -
This last point is often overlooked. Many cosmetic companies add a dermaroller to their existing range of serums without ever considering the properties of the treatment.
Micro needling creates tiny punctures in the skin. In doing so it punctures the skins natural waterproof layer. This allows a small amount of the body's natural moisture to escape causing the skin dryness often experienced. This is called transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
By making these tiny punctures small conduits are temporarily created that allow much greater absorption of products through the skin. This can be very beneficial for drug delivery and the application of serums and oils to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
It becomes a problem if products that are not safe for transdermal absorption are applied to the skin during this first 8 hours.
It is important to only use microneedling serums that not only improve the treatment results but are safe when absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
This blog will explain all the major derma roller after care products in detail. It will discuss the pros and cons of each so you can make an informed decision. The answers are relevant for clinical treatments and what to put on your skin after microneedling at home.
The aim is to find the best serum for microneedling for your skin!
[blogquiz]
After microneedling, the skin will be red and tender. Green tea oil-based products are excellent at this stage. They naturally soothe the skin and benefit photosensitivity. Green tea oil also naturally encourages collagen production and is safe with the increased transdermal absorption caused by microneedling.
Thick water-based moisturisers should not be used for the first 48 hours. They are likely to block the pores and lead to an increased risk of rashes and other skin eruptions. Specialist serums and oils designed for derma rolling can be applied at this point to improve the results.
So if you cant use a water based moisturiser after a microneedling treatment then can you moisturise after dermarolling? Yes using the correct oils or serums to aid the collagen stimulation.
Not all oils however are suitable post treatment. Look for oils such as green tea oil that are non comodegenic. We will also discuss several other oils below with both benefits and downsides.
Microneedling and hyaluronic acid are often combined as part of wider cosmetic treatments. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your skin but is chemically reproduced for use in cosmetics. For this reason we recommend avoiding a hyaluronic acid serum after microneedling until 48 hours after treatment.
During this time when the increased absorption is greatest use only natural products that are safe to be absorbed directly into the tissues and blood.
The use of retinol serums after microneedling will exasperate the side effects of dryness, inflammation and photo sensitivity caused by the microneedling. As both dermarollers and retinol share these side effects their use together can elongate the recovery times and is not recommended.
Vitamin C can prove useful in skin repair after microneedling. As the vitamin C serums are produced synthetically we recommend using naturally occurring products like green tea oil. Green tea oil contains large quantities of vitamin C but in a natural form that is readily bio available.
The answer to the question then can I use vitamin C serums after dermarolling is yes and it is even better to use a natural oil that contains the vitamin C in its most natural form. This is the best vitamin C serum after dermarolling.
Vitamin E is essential for wound repair after microneedling. Naturally occurring vitamin E is up to 50% more bio available than synthetic products. For this reason it is preferable to use products like green tea oil, with naturally available vitamin E after microneedling.
It was only in the 1950s that science could first differentiate that natural vitamin E and synthetic vitamin E were different. It was one of the first times that the difference between synthetic and naturally occurring vitamins was noted.
As microneedling also increases absorption it is best to stick to natural compounds like green tea oil as your all in one microneedling vitamin E serum.
Currently there is no definitive answer. Aloe vera dramatically reduces inflammation and a certain amount of inflammation is necessary for collagen induction therapy to take place. To get the best out of your treatment, it is probably best to avoid aloe vera for the first 2 weeks after treatment.
Oils are excellent to use on the skin after microneedling. They nourish the skin more deeply than water based moisturisers and can reduce the side effects of microneedling. Care must be taken though when choosing the oils as many can be cloying and block the pores causing outbreaks and rashes.
Olive oil can be beneficial to the skin and has been used for centuries in the Mediterranean for this purpose. Despite its nourishing properties, safety and affordability it is not ideal to use after microneedling. Its cloying nature can lead to blocked pores, rashes and acne outbreaks for many people.
Coconut oil is extremely nutrient rich and so can aid skin repair after microneedling. For most people however it is best avoided. Its very rich heavy nature can lead to blocked pores and an increase in rashes immediately after microneedling.
This is especially true for those with acne as it is a very rich greasy oil.
Argan nuts pass through the goats digestion and are then collected to create the rich argan oil. Used alone argan oil is a wonderfully nourishing oil for the skin. It is better avoided immediately after microneedling as its rich nature can lead to an increase in blocked pores and rashes.
Rosemary oil is a powerful essential oil. It should not be applied to the skin directly but diluted with a carrier oil to avoid skin irritation. Rosemary oil is better avoided after microneedling unless in a very dilute form as the skin is already in a state of irritation.
Generally most essential oils are too powerful to be applied directly to the skin. They are applied using a carrier oil to dilute them. After microneedling the skin is already irritated and they are best avoided unless included in a specialist dermaroller oil.
Green tea oil contains a wide array of nutrients including vitamin C and E to aid the skin’s healing. It also protects from UV damage reducing the natural photosensitivity after microneedling. Finally it is non comodegenic so is less likely to case skin outbreaks than other oils.
These attributes make it one of the best products to use after microneedling. It is particularly beneficial if the question is what to put on your face after microneedling? Being non comodegenic it will not cause acne outbreaks in those who are prone to it. This is a common problem for those treating acne scars where active acne in the are is sometimes a problem.

]]>Retinoids (vitamin A) and vitamin C should also be avoided, alongside other products that contain harsh chemicals, fragrances and alcohol. Face cleaning brushes are not recommended for 7 days or longer after the skin needling treatment. This depends on the size of the needles used.
But what is allowed? In the following article, you will discover what products are recommended and which activities are restricted as part of your microneedling post-treatment.
To protect your skin, you need to use only natural, organic products such as green tea oil. Apply the oil twice a day, after making sure your face and hands are clean. The green tea oil deeply moisturizes your skin, reducing the sensation of dryness.
This feeling of dry skin is also known as Trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). It appears after the dermarolling procedure makes micro holes on your skin surface. This allows the body's natural fluids to leak out leaving the skin drier.
In this case, water-based products are not as efficient in hydrating the skin as the green tea oil (Buy Organic Green Tea Facial Oil) that naturally assists the healing process. You can mix the oil with a little water to make it easier to apply to the treated area.
[blogquiz]
Yes, showering is allowed post skin needling. It's recommended to take a luke-warm shower after a few hours and use a gentle cleanser, nothing abrasive. As opposed to baths, showers have a lower inflammatory or infection risk. Sitting in bathtub water after dermarolling can lead to bacterial infection.
Your skin may feel dry and sticky due to the natural moisture that appears on the top layer of the skin after the microneedling treatment. In some instances, when needles of 1.5 mm or longer are used, blood may also appear, which needs to be washed away.
We don't recommend using such long needles, especially for anti-ageing purposes and at home. It is better in these cases to stick to 0.5 mm skin needling rollers. (Buy 0.5mm Hypoallergenic Dermaroller)
Use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30. Opt for a zinc-based sun cream that stays on the skin's surface while blocking the UV rays. It also should be as natural and chemical-free as possible to avoid possible inflammation
Sunscreens that are easily absorbed in the healing skin should be avoided.
Usually, we don't recommend using sun creams in the first 24 hours after the dermarolling treatment. If this is not possible, then choose a cream with the specifications mentioned above.
Tanning is not recommended. After microneedling, your skin will have a lower tolerance to sunlight for about 1 to 2 weeks or more, depending on the needles sizes. Steer clear of direct sun's rays as much as possible. If it can't be avoided, use SPF 50 or above.
These rules also apply to artificial tanning in salons. Dermarolling procedure can create photosensitivity. Because of this, your skin is more exposed to sunburns or skin damage after the treatment.
We recommend using sunscreen daily, even after the mandatory period has passed. It should be part of your skincare routine to avoid the ageing signs caused by the UV rays.
It is best to avoid all sports or exercising that can cause excessive sweating. You are exposed to a higher risk of infection when the micro-wounds from your skin stay in prolonged contact with sweat. Depending on the size of the needles, you may need to wait 2-7 days.
If you performed the skin needling treatment with a 0.5 mm dermaroller, 2 days of waiting are enough. When longer needles are used, such as 1.5mm, exercising should be avoided for up to 7 days.
Another practice you should put on hold after dermaroller treatment is swimming. The salted water from the sea may sting the damaged skin. At the same time, chlorinated pools are often high in bacteria. In both cases, the chances of developing a skin infection are increased.
Some side effects of swimming microneedling procedure may appear as an itchy rash. This skin reaction is rarely seen when smaller needles (0.5mm) are used. Nevertheless, swimming should be avoided in the first 48 hours post microneedling treatment.
Overall, try to limit the contact between your skin and external factors as much as possible, even if it affects daily activities. You could return to your routine when at least 3 days have passed after the treatment and more than 72 hours if the procedure was done with needles longer than 0.5mm.
Alcohol is not recommended in the first 24-48 hours post-treatment because it can cause skin flushing. Alcohol acts as a vasodilator which will worsen the blushing effect, especially if your skin is highly sensitive. Do not drink alcohol if you feel any dizziness, and contact your doctor.
Makeup after dermarolling should be avoided in the first 24 hours. The products used for makeup can block your skin's pores and accentuate the risk of infection. Apply the smallest quantities possible in the first-week post microneedling to allow proper skin rejuvenation.
Makeup tools such as brushes to apply makeup can cause rashes, even more so, if they have been used before. Foundations or powders that use synthetic fragrances should also be avoided because they can increase the risk of skin infection.
The simple answer to, when can you wear makeup after microneedling is to wear as little as possible for the first week and try to avoid any products that may increase the risk of infection.
You can use a jade roller after the microneedling treatment. A high-quality crystal roller is gentle to your skin, even if it is inflamed. White Lotus offers various natural and chemical-free jade facial rollers, which can cool the skin, especially if it feels hot after the dermarolling procedure.
When jade rolling on skin that has just received microneedling right after treatment it is important to understand that the jade roller should not then be shared with others. As part of the post dermaroller treatment care, it needs to be understood that any tools used on the skin have to be treated as though they have been exposed to blood even if none is present.
Our products meet all the necessary requirements to assure a safe, holistic microneedling treatment you can do at home with no side effects. White Lotus derma rollers and natural serums are designed by experts to offer you a premium experience and to get all the benefits of this treatment.
You will find micro-needling rollers suitable to treat different skin conditions. Plus, we offer professional instructions on performing the microneedling treatment to avoid damaging the skin.

]]>"What is the best way to clean my derma roller" and "what are derma roller safe cleansers" are the most common questions we hear from our clients. Today, we'll dive deeper into this topic.
Your dermaroller is an incredibly effective beauty tool, and just like all tools, it needs a little care to give you the best possible results.
Firstly, it's essential to know that it's unsafe and unsanitary to use a roller without regularly cleaning it. Uncleaned it can become a breeding ground for bacteria and cause various side effects like skin infections or rashes. Infection from a derma roller is not something anyone should experience.
But luckily, it takes minimum effort to clean and safely use your derma roller, and we're here to share the best ways to do it.
Here's how to clean your derma roller.
[blogquiz]
The best way to clean your derma roller is to use a spray of colloidal silver or isopropyl alcohol. Both will kill bacteria and the spray application avoids contact with the microneedles which can damage them. Avoid denture tablets as they were not designed for dermarollers and can also damage them.
When cleaning your dermaroller it is important to avoid sterilising machines, chloroxylenol, denture tablets, Dettol, bleach and boiling your derma roller. Many can have unintended consequences such as dissolving the glue that holds many metal microneedles in place. This can result in needles falling out.
Many of these are discussed in more detail below.
To clean your derma roller with alcohol, spray your roller from all angles after use with Anti-Bacterial Isopropyl Alcohol Spray and allow it to dry before storage. Before the next use, spray the dermaroller from all angles again and allow time for the alcohol to evaporate.
One of the best products on the market is the White Lotus Beauty Tool Cleaner with isopropyl alcohol. It is used to safely disinfect medical equipment. As it is alcohol-based, it rapidly evaporates, ensuring there are no chemicals on the derma roller the next time you use it.
It prevents any bacteria harboring on your roller in between treatments.
Although boiling water can kill bacteria it may damage many types of dermarollers. In particular the glue that holds many metal microneedles in place may be sensitive to heat. This can results in the needles actually falling out during use.
The White Lotus Hypoallergenic dermaroller actively avoids this issue as all needles are formed in one mould. This makes it impossible for a single microneedle to ever fall out.
We are often asked how to clean a dermaroller with dettol? We do not recommend using Dettol to clean your derma roller. It contains chloroxylenol, ranked as a mid-range toxic chemical that can cause burning, itching, rash, redness, or swelling according to the The Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database.
It is also very dangerous to pets like cats or dogs, and if they come in contact with it, it can have horrible consequences.
Lastly, Dettol can have an unpredictable reaction with the glue in the roller and could dissolve it, allowing the needles to fall out in metal rollers. This will ultimately destroy the roller.
Before use it is important that you can sterilise the dermaroller quickly and easily. It is best to use an isopropyl alcohol or colloidal silver spray. Both will kill 99.99% of bacteria and will evaporate quickly so your roller is ready to use rapidly.
Sanitizing a derma roller means reducing the number of organisms or bacteria on the roller. Sterlising on the other hand means killing all known bacteria and making it safe to share. It is currently impossible to completely sterilise a dermaroller however disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or colloidal silver will kill 99.99% of bacteria.
This dramatically reduces the risk of skin infections.
Infections from dermarolling are very rare. Longer needles or roller that are not properly sterilised increase this risk. Infections will usually look like small raised red rash. If these symptoms are ever experienced then it is best to refer to your Doctor.
The highest risk of infection is arguable cheap dermarollers that arrive not properly sterilised or correctly sealed. This dramatically increases your chance of infection. Always purchase from a reputable supplier and remember collagen induction tools are ultimately skin penetration devices and care should always be taken in product selection and use.
The Colloidal Silver spray kills 99.99% of bacteria and doesn't dehydrate the skin. Do your due diligence, find a trusted seller, and make sure your spray contains a minimum of 25 parts per million silver ions.
One of the best derma roller cleaners on the market is the White Lotus Natural Beauty tool cleaner with pure 99.999% Colloidal silver. It is made from distilled water, not filtered water and high-quality generators to produce the silver ions.
A bottle of the product will last well over a year when used fortnightly. It is usually the best choice for sensitive skin and similar skin types.
Isopropyl Alcohol spray kills 99.99% of bacteria and is the most popular way to sterilise all cosmetic equipment at beauty salons. Alcohol can be drying to the skin so make sure you leave time for it to completely evaporate before you use it on your skin again.
Allow time for the dermaroller to air dry before derma rolling. Do not try to manually dry the roller with a paper towel or similar items as you may damage the tiny needles. Following this advice is an effective lesson in how to sanitize a dermaroller.
Conclusion
When looking for the best way to clean your dermaroller isopropyl alcohol is considered the best alcohol solution for derma rollers. Colloidal silvers is considered a more natural but equally effective alternative.
Both sprays are quick, hygienic and practical to use. Avoid trying to soak your dermaroller in anything over night and trying to make your derma roller clean with hot water, warm water, rubbing alcohol or other cleaners not recommended by the manufacturer

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure done by applying light pressure to the face or other treatment area using skin needling rollers. The tiny needles of the rollers pierce the top layer of the skin to activate the wound healing response to stimulate collagen production naturally.
Also knows as collagen induction therapy, this treatment allows a new layer of skin to be formed after the damaged skin is shaded. Microneedling treatments trigger the body’s natural process to release collagenase around the wound which helps the skin repair itself and become smoother. According to studies, skin needling will accelerate collagen production by up to 1,000 % in just one procedure.
The new collagen and elastin production will help improve various skin conditions and reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. Besides this, it will give your skin a natural and healthy glowing aspect.
Microneedling can be done with a derma roller. When using the device on your skin surface, it must be held almost parallel to the skin and applied with little pressure. Gently move the roller across the treatment area in one direction to make sure you penetrate the skin evenly.
To ensure the correct usage of the derma roller, White Lotus has prepared full video instructions on the product page - Hypoallergenic Dermaroller. All White Lotus products also come with full instructions and ongoing support.
The quality of the skin needling roller is essential when performing the treatment. Choosing a cheaper version will not bring you the desired results because they are simply not produced using scientific principles and appropriate technology.
Our derma rollers have strong and sharper needles to assure you will get the best results. We use needles of 0.30 diameter (this is not the length) that withstand one year of use before being replaced, while most rollers use 0.15 mm wide spikes that need replacing after the first month.
In general, there are little to no side effects depending on how the procedure is done, the skin’s condition, and the quality of the product used. There have been reported minor skin irritation and a tightening sensation after the treatment, but most of them are normal and will disappear shortly.
The redness that appears after dermarolling is a sign that the natural process of healing and collagen induction has begun. CIT treatment is contraindicated if you have: irritated skin, active acne, chronic skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema, etc.), open wounds, and high scar tendency. Additionally, if you are undergoing or had radiotherapy or chemotherapy recently, microneedling is not recommended for you.
What you can do to prevent other adverse reactions such as nickel allergy is to use Hypoallergenic dermarollers. All White Lotus derma rollers are hypoallergenic and metal-free. Avoid buying imitations that are non-sterile and can cause skin complications.
Yes, CIT treatments can be done by yourself at home. Prior to microneedling, make sure to read and follow the usage recommendations such as choosing the right needle length and product quality, cleansing the skin before applying and using only light pressure, afterward use the appropriate serum.
Microneedling practiced at home can be as efficient as the ones in clinics. To achieve the same results, you must carefully choose the right size and quality of the needles. Usually, people tend to buy derma roller with a needle size too big for anti-aging purposes, which can cause damage to the skin (by penetrating it too deeply).
Our clinical experience has proven that 0.5 mm sharp needles (insert product link) provide the best results. Dermarolling with 0.5 mm needles is done deep enough to stimulate collagen production, but without causing any harm to the skin.
The collagen induction starts almost 48 hours after the treatment was done. The results can be gradually seen between 3 to 12 weeks, while the new collagen will last 5 to 7 years. Your skin will look smoother, and the aging signs such as fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.
The pictures that illustrate the skin’s aspect before and after the microneedling prove the undeniable benefits of this treatment. Besides reducing the age spots, CIT may assist hyperpigmentation by causing the skin to regenerate and produce large amounts of collagen.
When microneedling treatment is performed at clinics, the patient is required to sign a consent form. The document describes the procedure, contraindications, and possible side effects and risks that the recipient is exposed to during the therapy. Please read it carefully before signing.
A consent form will help you understand if the procedure is right for you and what to expect from it.
The most important aspects you should look for when buying a skin needling device are quality (material, machine assembly, etc.), brand reliability, and product specifications (needles size, allergens, etc.). These characteristics make the difference between great results and harmful outcomes.
You might be tempted to choose a cheaper product, but if you look closer, you will see they don’t meet any of the required criteria for safety and efficiency, as you will find in our roller devices.
Our skin needling rollers offer unmatched quality and innovation in this field. White Lotus specialized products are vouched by over a decade of experience, thousands of satisfied customers, and hundreds of professional clinics. They are designed to treat different conditions and areas of skin.
If you are on the journey to improve your skin's health and esthetics, White Lotus is here to help you cross the deep sea and achieve your goals. We have developed premium products for natural, non-invasive skin needling treatments with no side effects when performed accordingly.
Unlike most brands that consider one product good enough for all skin types and conditions, White Lotus offers different products to meet our client's needs.
Our microneedling tools provide various needles sizes of 0.25mm, 0.5mm, 1.0mm you can choose from to treat your specific condition. Alternatively, we offer Collagen Induction Therapy Kits which contain, besides the rollers, organic serums to help you maximize the results of the treatments.

]]>Both microneedling and chemical peels can stimulate the dermis level of the skin to encourage production of the body's own natural collagen. Chemical peels however are more invasive and cause more damage to the epidermis while the micro punctures caused by microneedling completely close in around 8 hours.
Both chemical peels and microneedling can be done in clinics or at home. When performing home microneedling shorter microneedle rollers of 1.0mm should be used. Longer 1.5mm microneedle rollers can be used in specialist clinics.
While some chemical peels can be purchased over the counter for home use more intensive chemical peels are usually performed by an aestehtician, dermatologist or plastic surgeon in a medical spa setting.
Various types of chemical peels are available including Alpha Hydroxy acid peels (AHAs) such as, glycolic acid peels, Beta Hydroxy acid peels (BHA) such as salicylic acid peels, retinoic acid peels and phenol-croton oil peels.
[blogquiz]
The type of peel used determines how deeply the peel penetrates. Deeper peels while arguably more effective are associated with more side effects. Possible side effects from chemical peels include skin scarring, photo-sensitivity, prolonged erythema, milia, skin atrophy and changes in skin texture.
Side effects from microneedling are rare and generally less severe. Most people will experience skin redness and may be sensitive to sunlight for a week after treatment. If using microneedles of 1.5mm or longer then there can be bleeding. These treatments are best only performed in a clinical environment for medical conditions such as burn scars.
Importantly microneedling is also considered completely safe for darker skin as it has not been shown to cause pigmentation issues unlike chemical peels. The potential pigmentation issues with chemical peels vary with the depth of the peel. Superficial peels are more likely to cause hyperpigmentation while deeper peels can cause hypopigmentation.
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is more common in some skin types and hypopigmentation post chemical peel is more common on dark skin. It is best to consult a skin care specialist before using most chemical peels. This is especially true if you have sensitive skin or suffer from any known skin conditions.
It is not a good idea to do a peel prior to microneedling. The peel will cause extensive inflammation in the skin making the microneedling treatment very painful. It also causes unnecessary over stimulation of the fibroblast cells which need time to induct collagen after a treatment.
This totally depends on the depth of the chemical peel used. The minimum usually recommended is 2 weeks break between treatments. Better advice however is to wait until all signs of inflammation have disappeared then leave it a further week before proceeding with micro needling.
You should never do a peel directly after microneedling as the skin may be sensitive and inflamed. It is best to wait at least two weeks until all signs of inflammation have cleared. This will depend on the length of micro needle used and the depth of the peel intended.
Combining invasive cosmetic treatments like this can lead to excessive inflammation and slower healing times. Both treatments also work on stimulating fibroblast cells to induct collagen so are competing for the same mechanism. When done together like this it is also hard to know which treatment is actually working.
This can lead to you continuing with both treatments at higher expense when only one may be producing all the results. Microneedling combined with chemical peels is also very uncomfortable for many people. It is normally better to do one or the other and then measure results rather than combining both and simply hoping results will be better.
Dermarollers are the most common way of performing microneedling on the face. Unlike a chemical peel a derma roller will leave the surface of the skin or epidermis relatively undamaged. The microneedles pass through the superficial skin leaving micro-conduits that completely close in around 8 hours.
Both treatments can increase collagen production in the skin but derma rolling does so with generally fewer side effects and for most, less discomfort.
Both microneedling and chemical peels penetrate through the epidermis to the dermis. In doing so they engage the wound healing cascade. As part of this process the fibroblast cells are stimulated to create a new layer of the body's own natural collagen.
The big difference is in how the dermis is reached. Peels do it by completely removing the outer layer of skin. This of course carry's increased risk of side effects as out lined above.
Microneedling reaches the dermis by creating small punctures and passing through the epidermis while leaving the overall structure of the skin relatively intact. Rolling across the skin 15 times with a dermaroller will create around 215 micro-punctures per square cm. This is enough to stimulate the production of a completely new smooth layer of skin.
The amount of new collagen produced by a chemical peel will vary with the depth of peel. Most peels are fairly good at increasing collagen production.
When using microneedling the microneedles must be long enough to penetrate through the epidermis to the dermis. As the epidermis is fairly thin, derma rollers with needles over 0.5mm in length will actively create percutaneous collagen induction therapy (CIT).
Studies have shown that micro needling can produce up to a 1,000% increase in collagen production after a single session.
Both chemical peels and microneedling are used to assist scar tissue. Dermarollers with microneedles of 1.0mm should be used with normal scarring. Product selection is more difficult with chemical peels as different skin types and scars react differently to different chemical peels.
Expert advice should be sought to determine which if any peel type is suitable for your skin. If assisting scars such as acne scars or caesarean scars at home then microneedling is the safer and easier choice to.
Microneedling is suitable for both hypotrophic (sunken) and hypertrophic (raised) scars. This makes it effective at assisting pitted and boxcar scars as well as raised surgical scarring.
Both microneedling and chemical peels can stimulate new collagen production and assist the signs of aging and scar tissue. The advantages of microneedling are ease of use, reduced side effects and they can be used on more surfaces. Proponents of deep chemical peels argue they may be more effective for some types of severe scarring.
When choosing microneedling products look for quality as although they look very harmless you are purchasing tiny needles that must be well made and effectively sterilised.
White Lotus recommends the hypoallergenic bio-compatible polymer dermarollers to be used along with green tea oil for effective skin needling treatments

]]>Microneedling involves passing a micro-needled derma roller over your skin, creating miniature puncture wounds that the body then heals into new and fresh skin. When the body senses these micro-wounds, it will invoke its own, natural healing process to create fresh new skin – clearing away any scar tissue it finds.
The advantage of this scar treatment process is that it uses the body’s own healing mechanisms, so it’s 100% natural. Furthermore, it’s a safe procedure (as long as you’re using a small enough needle – such as a derma roller of 1mm for acne scars!) so you can perform micro-needling for acne scars at home if you’d rather avoid a trip to the clinic.
No, But it reduces them dramatically often rendering them invisible. Here’s how it works. The derma roller passes over the skin, creating tiny puncture wounds. This localised trauma activates the body's natural wound healing process. Part of this process uses enzymes to break up any old or damaged collagen – or scar tissue!
Scar tissue is nothing more than misaligned collagen fibres in your skin. The healing enzymes break this down and create a new, smooth layer of skin to replace it. As the body heals from the micro-trauma of the derma roller, it also fixes any existing scar tissue.
A microneedle roller for acne scars is ideal to treat scars because it can assist both raised and depressed scars, and also cover a large area of skin very quickly. This is very effective against the pock-marked depressions common in acne scarring. You can use a dermaroller for back acne scars, or you can use a dermaroller for boxcar scars.
[blogquiz]
Yes, with microneedling, you’re invoking the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to replace scar tissue with fresh skin. Once the body has healed from the micro-trauma (removing any scar tissue in the process), the fresh, healthy skin will remain indefinitely.
Six is optimal: once every two weeks for twelve weeks. To get the best results from microneedling, you need to give the skin time to heal in between stimulating the body’s healing process with micro-trauma. Do NOT place your sessions a mere few days apart!
1mm is the optimal derma roller needle size for most scars. Acne scars are often flat scars without much depth. Furthermore, with micro-needles of 1mm, you’re safe to perform the operation at home. Needles of 1mm don’t carry the same risks as longer micro-needles.
The ideal microneedling depth for these types of scars is 1mm. To stimulate the body’s healing mechanisms, a puncture wound of at least 0.6mm is required. However, this does not include the depth of the scar tissue. Therefore, you want to use at least 1mm for effective treatment.
Longer derma roller needle lengths, such as 1.5-2mm, can be used for thicker scars, because you need the needles to completely puncture the scar tissue. However, longer derma roller needle lengths should only be used in a clinical environment. Use a derma roller of 1mm for acne scars. Only this is safe to use at home.
With microneedling for scars, results are impressive. This treatment for scars will greatly diminish the scars’ appearance, and may remove them completely. This is because the derma roller for acne scars procedure uses the body’s natural healing process to clean up the skin, removing scar tissue.
Scar tissue, which is just misaligned collagen, is replaced with healthy skin. Acne scars before and after microneedling will always improve and often vanish.
Yes. As long as you use a short enough needle (no more than 1mm), microneedling for acne scars at home is safe and effective. However, if you have thick scar tissue, and need a derma roller with needles longer than 1mm, you should go to a clinic.
The best at-home microneedling for scars is using a derma roller of 1mm. The derma roller needle length for acne scars needs to be deep enough to puncture both the scar tissue and the underlying skin enough to invoke the body’s healing processes. Longer needles than a derma roller of 1mm for acne scars may cause bleeding and should only be used in clinical settings.
The best serums contain green tea oil. This is a natural oil that protects the skin and assists wound repair. This will help your skin to recover from the trauma of the derma roller and also assist in the healing of any scar tissue that might have been present on top.
Yes. Microneedling is one of the best and most effective treatments for acne scars. This is because microneedling with a derma roller triggers the body’s own healing process – cleaning up old imperfections like scar tissue, where the body didn’t properly heal the first time around.
Yes. Boxcar scars can be dramatically improved with micro-needling. Boxcar scars are formed because the body, in its haste to heal from acne, does not form sufficient new collagen in the area. Microneedling helps the body restart this healing process at a time when it can more fully heal.
Yes. Pitted acne scars, unlike raised (or hypertrophic) scars, result from a lack of collagen rather than an overproduction. Microneedling can improve the appearance of – and permanently assist – all types of pitted scars: ice pick scars, boxcar scars, and rolling scars.
£54 or $US62.00 is the price of a high-quality, hypoallergenic derma roller. This is all that you need to do microneedling by yourself at home. So if this is all that you buy, the entire cost of six sessions of micro-needling is £54!
If you’d like to produce ideal, optimal new skin as the micro-wounds heal, you can opt for the Scar derma roller kit for only £90. This includes what to use after a dermaroller for acne scars: organic green tea oil and a disinfecting spray for the derma roller.
The microneedling device kit is suitable for all skin types and skin tones. It reduces acne scarring by increasing collagen and elastin production. The included skincare products ensure the skin is protected and nourished post treatment.
Microneedling will lessen or even effectively erase the marks caused by acne scarring. The results of microneedling for acne scars will vary from person to person, but everyone will see an improvement. In some cases, this will result in the permanent removal of the visible appearance of the scar. In others, it may become invisible. Microneedling has been shown to have improved the appearance of acne scars. Being a minimally invasive treatment with very little or no side effects when tiny needles are used correctly, makes this an invaluable treatment.

The White Lotus Crystal Rollers are guaranteed genuine crystal. The crystal is never chemically treated or reformulated. It can carry the Grade A crystal classification. Retains the energetic properties of the original crystal.
The Cheap Generic Crystal Rollers are intensely chemically treated crystal that have to carry tags such as ‘reconstituted’ to avoid claims of false advertising. They retain none of the original properties of the crystal.
The White Lotus Crystal Rollers are created with solid brass brackets with rounded edges. These rounded edges eliminate the liability risk if the roller head is dislodged as they will not cut the skin like wire brackets will. They also allow the head to be removed for cleaning if required. The shape of the White Lotus Roller is unique in the market.
Cheap Generic Crystal Rollers use thin wire that is usually sharp if the head falls out and will damage and tear skin. The wire is generally weak and limits the lifespan of the roller. Nearly all these rollers are made in the same 3 factories in China. They are sometimes labelled with the name of the seller but it is very easy to see they are the same rollers sold on ebay for £5.
The White Lotus Crystal Rollers are produced in a beautiful box lined with genuine silk. This silk lining is a traditional method of storing crystal which is believed to protect the energetic properties of the crystal. The box is FSC cardboard and uses environmentally friendly EVA foam to hold the roller in place ensuring safe delivery. The silk lined box makes great gift presentation.
Cheap Generic Crystal Rollers are usually wrapped in simple cardboard creating poor presentation as gifts and allowing higher breakages during transportation.
The White Lotus Crystal Rollers offers a lifetime guarantee. This guarantee is unique in the marketplace and reflects the philosophy of White Lotus. Genuine crystals involve mining and transportation which create an environmental cost. Making these product throw away is an insult to a limited resource in an age of growing environmental concern.
Cheap Generic Crystal Rollers offer no guarantees. Weak construction generally guarantees a short lifespan.
White Lotus is a company formed by two acupuncturists who studied these tools in China and were later instrumental to their popularisation in the West. White Lotus regularly releases learning resources both paid and free to support correct rolling technique and help customers to achieve better results. White Lotus has also created unique online diagnostic tools to allow customers to pick the right crystal for them based on acupuncture meridian, skin type or meridian.
The cheapest rollers are from Chinese producers with no local support. More recently other beauty brands are adding private label crystal rollers to their range with little understanding of the product and no tailored customer support.
White Lotus has a unique range of five crystals to reflect the 5 element theory of Chinese medicine. The five crystal are amethyst, jade, Black tourmaline, rose quartz and clear quartz. This widening of the range ensures there is a crystal to suit everyone's taste. You can also incorporate the Gua Sha and organic skincare to create your own unique crystal facial.
Most companies carry jade and more recently rose quartz. They are industry followers rather than creating the trends. They have little interest in personalising the roller to the unique customer.

]]>The crystal rollers and crystal gua sha are crafted in 5 different crystal types to suit different skin types. In your clinic or salon you have the option of providing your beauty clients with a range of different crystals or only offering one or two types.
The advantage of offering all 5 crystal types is the ability to customise the treatment to the individuals skin types. This provides your customers with a much more personalised treatment.
If you would like to offer this range you will need to examine your clients skin in some detail before performing the crystal facial. A basic guide to which crystal roller and gua sha is suited to each skin type is listed below.
Amethyst Crystal Facial: Normal Dry and sensitive skin
Rose Quartz Crystal Facial: Normal, sensitive, combination and acne prone skin
Jade Crystal Facial: Oily blemish and acne prone skin
Tourmaline Crystal Facial: Oily, normal or sensitive skin
Clear Quartz Crystal Facial: Suits all skin types. This is considered a master healer crystal
For a more detailed explanation please see the blog ‘Crystal Type Selection Chart’ or you can use our online selector 'Choose your Crystal by Skin Type'. This Selector also allows you to select your crystal type by Acupuncture Meridian or Chakra.
If you prefer to only use one type of crystal facial then it is best to select the crystal based on your personal preference and by what you believe will suit your clinic.
The most popular choices are still Jade and rose quartz. These make good options but dont overlook crystals such as amethyst which give a unique and beautiful tint to your salon.
Remember all White Lotus crystal products carry a lifetime guarantee so you will be working with them for a long time. Choose one you really love.
Step by Step Instructions on performing a crystal facial can be found for free on this blog ‘How to Perform the White Lotus Crystal Facial’ along with a video demonstrating the techniques.
If you ever need more help with this White Lotus also offer a detailed correspondence course called the ‘Jade Roller, Gua Sha and Cosmetic Cupping Course’.
This covers the whole treatments from a practitioners point of view. It is hosted by founder Anthony Kingston who has been performing these treatments for 15 years. Anthony was instrumental in popularising the techniques in the West. It contains lots of practical tips for making the most of the crystal beauty products and cupping in clinic.
Crystal Facials are a very relaxing non invasive treatment. For this reason they are ideal to combine with more aggressive beauty treatments such as micro needling or dermarolling, micro dermal abrasion or cosmetic acupuncture.
The advantages of combining a crystal facial with more invasive treatments are three fold.
Remember all crystal massage products must be used on the skin before invasive treatments not afterwards.
It is sometimes written that crystals can be used on the skin after treatments that cause inflammation to ‘cool the skin’. This is not really correct.
Most invasive procedures including micro needling, acupuncture, micro blading and dermal abrasion break the surface of the skin. If used after one of these treatments the crystal products can no longer be used on other clients due to the risk of blood transference. If you do choose to use the crystal products after an invasive treatment then send the crystal products home with the client rather than reuse them in clinic.

Crystal-infused water is commonly advertised in the drinking water bottles industry. A small amount of crystal is attached inside the bottle and every time the bottle is refilled the water comes in contacted with the crystal and it is believed to be energised.
More recently we are seeing a trend towards this in the cosmetic industry. More and more serums, face oils and creams are being advertised as crystal infused. From a manufacturers point of view the benefits are obvious. They can use a trending term like jade crystal or amethyst in the name of the product so increasing sales.
Best of all for them the crystal is never actually left in the product and the product does not specify the quantity of crystal used. In this way it costs them virtually nothing. One small square centimetre of a crystal could be added to a 1,000 litre vat then removed and added to the next one in perpetuity.
This not only means adding the crystal costs nothing it also allows them to use expensive crystals such as diamond and ruby as they only need a tiny amount of a low grade crystal to dip in the mixture then they can even resell the crystal afterwards if they choose.
The purpose of this blog is not to disparage crystal infusion or even give opinions about the process or whether water is actually energised by this quick passing contact. The purpose is to explain as a lot of you may not be familiar with the process and believe you are applying real crystals to your faces.
In the hope of restoring real crystals to cosmetic and skin care products White Lotus have created the Activated Jade and Tourmaline Crystal Face serum. The serum very clearly states on the side the exact percentage of crystals contained in the serum.
The serum contains a 1% w/w volume of each crystal ground to an extremely fine 10 micrometers. Grinding crystals this finely is difficult but this allows them to disperse naturally throughout the serum keeping the serum perfectly smooth.
This process is very ancient being used by both the ancient Egyptians and Chinese in their skincare products.
Recent research has shown that the exact crystal proportions and size used in the Activated Jade and Tourmaline Crystal Face serum can dramatically increase the absorption of natural far infrared rays from the atmosphere (1). These rays have known cosmetic benefits naturally increasing collagen and elastin production, decreasing fluid retention and improving wound healing (2,3,4).
Interestingly it has been found that when ground, the crystals actually attract far more energy than larger whole crystals making this the most effective way to benefit from the natural ability of crystals to attract energy from the atmospehere (5).

The Science Behind Applying Real Crystals to the Skin
Create a Complete Crystal Facial by Skin Type

In many traditional cultures crystals have been applied to the skin to naturally improve the appearance and cultivate beauty. In some cases these crystals were powdered and applied in creams and serums while in others small pieces of crystal were strung together to create masks.
China used jade to create this sort of mask and examples of these can still be purchased today particularly to cool the eyes. Ancient Egyptians on the other hand preferred rose quartz as a natural remedy for the signs of aging.
The explanations of how they worked were taken from the culture of the time. The Chinese for example believed that jade contacting the skin improved the natural qi (energy) and blood flow to the skin nourishing and enhancing the appearance.
In the modern era we have been able to apply scientific research to determine how and if rituals like the application of crystals achieve their results. Unsurprisingly as with many insights of the ancient Chinese they were fairly correct. Only the terminology has changed as we will see.
To determine how and if ground crystals can create changes in the skins appearance 10 people were chosen 5 men and 5 women aged between the ages of 26 and 35 (1). Several crystal formulations were then developed. Each formulation used powdered nephrite jade and powdered tourmaline in an oil and water base but in different proportions. The content of crystals in the formulations varied between 0.25%, 1.0%, 3.0% and 7.0% (w/w).
It has long been known that crystals emit natural wave energy in the natural infrared range. This is not a myth and can be easily measured using modern scientific equipment. In this research an ‘IR spectrometer' was used to measure the energy emitted by each formulation.
Interestingly it was found that the energy emission was almost saturated at 1% content of each powder. In other words adding more than 1% of the powdered crystal made very little difference to the amount of energy produced. The 0.25% formulation produced far less energy while the 7% formulation produced practically no more energy than the 1.0%. For this reason the study continued with the formulation containing 1% of each crystal powder.
It has been proven that far infrared rays can increase peripheral blood circulation and this naturally increases skin temperature. To understand if the crystal serums applied to the skin were being effective the team used an ‘infrared ray thermal analyser thermography’ to detect slight changes in the peoples skin temperature.
The 1% crystal formulation was applied to one side of the subjects face while the other side of their face was treated with a control cream that did not contain the crystals.
The subjects faces were analysed before and after the application of the formulations. All subjects experienced an elevation in the surface skin temperature on the side of the face that had received the crystals only. The temperature rise varied between 0.6 and 1.5 degrees celsius with an average rise of 1 degree celsius.
This clearly demonstrated the ability of crystals to emit wave energy to the skin.
This is an important break though as infrared rays have long been known to have powerful cosmetic affects. It is known that infrared rays:
The issue with far infrared rays has been that by creating artificial machines to replicate these naturally occurring energies there is a risk that damage could be done to the skin or the wider health. This becomes particularly relevant as cosmetic practitioners search for more and more innovative and powerful treatments to satisfy their customers.
The knowledge that simple natural crystals can stimulate natural wave energy to create these beneficial effects is a break through. It takes us straight back to the original understanding of the Chinese that the jade crystals emitted beneficial qi to enhance the appearance. Once again the ancient wisdom is born out by modern science.
A comparison then needs to be made between the benefits that would be obtained by masks of larger crystals compared with powdered crystals in a serum. Again thankfully this has been researched. It has been shown that tourmaline amongst other crystals emits more energy as particle size decreases (6). The finer the particles the more energy emitted, In the case of the research above the crystals were ground to an average diameter of 10 micrometers, so very small. In this form they emit far more energy than a mask of larger gems.
Never confuse finely ground crystals in a serum with groups who advertise crystal infused beauty products. Crystal infused skincare simply means a crystal is dipped in the formulation at some point in its journey and then removed. No trace of the crystal remains in the formulation and this is largely used for marketing purposes.
White Lotus is at the fore front of implementing the latest natural beauty research and making it available to a wider audience. Following this research White Lotus has developed the ‘Activated Jade and Tourmaline Crystal Serum’. The formulation follows exactly the crystal formulation used in the positive research explained above.
The crystal serum contains 1% (w/w) of both tourmaline and nephrite jade in a delicately balanced oil and water serum. The crystals are powdered to an average of 10 micrometers in keeping with the study, making them fine enough to gently diffuse throughout the serum.
In keeping with the wider philosophy of White Lotus the serum also contain bio active ingredients such as Ginseng, Rose, green tea, jojoba and frankincense. 90% of the ingredients are certified organic. It is certified vegan and cruelty free and is free from parabens, phthalates, sulphates, detergents, Silicones, ethanolamines, synthetic fragrances, preservatives, mineral oil, petrolatum, palm oil and synthetic colours.
The serum can be used alone or with the White Lotus Jade Roller and Jade Gua Sha to create the complete Crystal Facial

]]>All jade mined in China is nephrite jade which should not be confused with the far more expensive Jadeite jade mined in Myanmar. All jade rollers and ancient China sculptures were produced with nephrite jade and Jadeite jade was not introduced to China until the 20th century.
Jade is extremely precious in China with some types selling for more than gold per gram. The cost and the even greater cultural value placed on jade in China has meant the industry is heavily regulated by the government with strict standards being applied to the mining process and the mines undergoing constant inspections to ensure they adhere to all regulations including labour laws. (the government takes a lot less interest in what certain merchants choose to sell as jade in the West).
We are often asked if our jade is certified soil association organic like our skincare range. Unfortunately the Soil association or any other independent bodies do not certify the quality of crystal from China or in fact worldwide. In fact only an expert can truly differentiate the quality of crystals without the use of chemical analysis.
To overcome this White Lotus has invested heavily to monitor every step of its supply chain to ensure that the jade we use is mined in as ethical way as possible without undue environmental damage of exploitation of labour.
White Lotus have been selling high quality jade products around the world of over 15 years now and have used this time to develop high quality sourcing and quality control throughout our supply chains.
Once mined the jade crystal is hand carved in the traditional way. At no stage does the crystal undergo any chemical treatment to soften the crystal or improve its colour. The natural properties of the crystal are respected and maintained throughout the process.
This attention to detail allows White Lotus to offer our unique lifetime guarantee. This is not a popular concept in the modern world where products are designed to break to ensure future sales.
White Lotus believes that like all mined minerals the earths supply is limited. By creating jade rollers of high enough quality they will last a lifetime we believe we minimalise the impact these products produce on the world.
White Lotus retains this ethical attitude to business throughout its business structure. All offices use renewably sourced electricity, all skincare products are either certified organic or in the process of being certified Soil Association organic and a percentage of every sale is given to charity.
